Introducción a la segunda versión (mayo 2020)
Cumpliendo con el tópico de que lo prometido es deuda he aquí la segunda versión de este trabajo, en la que he procurado recoger todas las novedades aparecidas en estos tres últimos años sobre las acuñaciones argénteas de los almorávides y sus sucesores inmediatos. Teniendo presente la frecuente aparición de monedas no descritas hasta el momento, desde el principio ya se anticipó la sospecha –ahora todo un hecho- de que este catálogo se quedaría corto desde su mismo lanzamiento, y muestra de ello es el más de medio centenar de tipos nuevos que he podido encontrar desde que se redactaron aquellas líneas, y que tengo el orgullo de incluir junto con el resto de piezas. Es motivo de satisfacción para todos este incremento en el número de variedades conocidas, aunque si cabe lo es aún más el salto cualitativo que representa el descubrimiento de emisores para los que hasta ahora no se conocían acuñaciones en plata, al igual que la aparición de nuevas piezas que han permitido realizar la correcta atribución de ejemplares que permanecían en el anonimato, o directamente mal asignados.
Son unos cuantos, medios y personas, los responsables de las adiciones efectuadas a este trabajo que, sin falsa modestia, me gusta definir como colectivo; y esta gacetilla junto a sus partícipes ha tenido bastante que ver en esto. Hay que destacar también la reciente publicación del corpus de Eustache que, a pesar de sus limitaciones, nos ha permitido llegar a un buen conjunto de acuñaciones de origen indudablemente norteafricano que difícilmente habríamos podido conocer de otra manera. Y no menos importantes han sido los numerosos aportes de coleccionistas y aficionados que hemos recibido a través de distintos caminos; esperemos que este efecto llamada se mantenga y nos permita ampliar este repertorio en breve.
Abstract
Complying with the topic that what is promised is debt, here is the second version of this work, in which I have tried to collect all the novelties that have appeared in these last three years on the silver coinage of the Almoravids and their immediate successors. Bearing in mind the frequent appearance of coins not described so far, from the beginning the suspicion was anticipated – now quite a fact – that this catalog would fall short from its very launch, and proof of this is more than fifty new types that I have been able to find since those lines were written, and that I am proud to include along with the rest of the pieces. This increase in the number of known varieties is a source of satisfaction for all, although it is even more so the qualitative leap represented by the discovery of emitters for which silver coinage has not been known until now, as well as the appearance of new pieces that have allowed the correct attribution of specimens that remained anonymous, or directly poorly assigned.
There are a few, means and people, who are responsible for the additions made to this work that, without false modesty, I like to define as collective; and this gacetilla together with its participants has had a lot to do with this. It is also worth noting the recent publication of the Eustache corpus, which, despite its limitations, has allowed us to reach a good set of coinage of undoubtedly North African origin that we could hardly have known otherwise. And no less important have been the numerous contributions from collectors and fans that we have received through different paths; Hopefully this call effect is maintained and allows us to expand this repertoire shortly.
